About
A short introduction to the start of Susi Gardner Artist's journey to becoming a award winning wildlife and pet portrait artist.
Susi creates each piece from her home studio located in Fordingbridge on the edge of the New Forest. Her journey started when very young having the opportunity to learn the beauty and complexity of oils as a medium.
After a 20 year break Susi rediscovered her passion for art during the Covid lockdown, initially as a way to relieve stress she realised that her creativity had been suppressed for two decades. Engaging in art has enabled this creativity to create portraits of wildlife and highlight the beauty in the natural world around us.
Focusing on capturing the essence of animals, including beloved pet portraits. Susi's commitment to raising awareness about endangered species inspires her work, with a drive to challenge and refine her techniques, connecting meaningfully with each subject. Her objective is to highlight the magnificence wildlife and inspire others to view the world through an artistic perspective.

The process Susi uses is a layering technique, once a base layer of oils is dry which has no thinning medium, the following layers will gradually be thinned using Michael Harding's Miracle medium for oils. This will thin the oils but not allow too fast a drying time which gives the ability to still blend.
Examples below were created when young and are just a selection of Susi's favourites she painted, in oils.

Every painting created is a unique piece, by investing in an Original piece, collectors will not only own a piece that will last a lifetime but also be contributing to the conservation of wildlife through their purchase.

Susi Gardner Artist, contributes 20% of product profits to the protection and conservation of wildlife through charities. In 2023 Susi supported Born Free Foundation with a donation from product profits, 2024 was Secret World Wildlife Rescue.
For 2025 Susi will be supporting another charity, each year being different so that the opportunity to support more causes is greater.
